Career Counseling
One of the earliest questions many of us are asked is, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" The trouble with this question is that the answer is not a constant. We rarely know exactly what we want to do with our lives as early as we are expected to.
Sometimes we decide what we want our careers to be, only later to discover that our choice isn't really a good fit. Perhaps we pursued a particular career only to feel burned out after years of work and discover that we are ready for a change. Or maybe we never really figured it out, because we've never learned what sort of work choices might feel both responsible and also rewarding. Perhaps we were never given the information we needed to make those choices in the first place. Whatever the reason, the search for a satisfying and meaningful work life can be a challenging thing to undertake. People often don't realize that they need to deconstruct the messages they've received about what a "good job" or a "good career" are before they can find something that is a truly good fit for their personalities and work styles. You're not alone in your search. |
The truth is that many more people aren't sure what to do with their lives than you might guess. You are not alone in your search for a meaningful career. Whatever the reason, people choose new and different careers at many points in their lives, from the onset of young-adulthood to their "retirement" years. Career choices are never one-size-fits-all.
Exploring the World of Work
People entering or re-entering the career discovery process are often intimidated and overwhelmed. The prospect of trying to find a career that is both a good fit and will also pay the bills, that meets one's value systems without limiting their options, and that offers opportunity while still leaving time for the other important things in life can feel daunting. Luckily, you don't have to go through this process by yourself.
Career Counseling offers a way to learn about the World of Work within the safety and comfort of a supportive counseling relationship. It gives you the chance to make good, informed choices based out of your needs and desires that will sustain you rather than drain you. |
In a way, Career Counseling connects the supportive, emotional process of counseling with the pragmatic, exploratory aspects of the career search process. It helps you discover what you really want out of your professional life, and gives you the tools to expand both your knowledge of yourself, and also your knowledge of the World of Work that is available to you. As a Career Counseler, I take into account your unique circumstances and needs while also helping you work through the ingrained childhood messages, insecurities, and fears that you bring with you to your career search. And together, as we discover more about your complexity and competencies, we create a path to a career that feels right.
Rates & Scheduling
Career counseling can take one session for some people, and many sessions for others. Circumstances can also change quickly in your World of Work. For this reason, I schedule Career Counseling sessions on a week-by-week basis, so that we can work at a pace that feels good and that meets your needs.
My standard rate for one-on-one Counseling is $120 per session; however, I also offer a sliding scale between $70 and $100 per session. Please Contact me if you would like to inquire about my current availability, or if you have questions regarding my rates or scheduling.
